Sedna has an eliptical orbit

pick one of four options

Four options are now available for a Sedna ephemeris using the standard astrological tropical zodiac. Pick the one which suits your requirements the best. Know that for all of these ephemerides the retrogrades and stations are not indicated. For three of them you'll have to be eagle-eyed to identify and note them yourself, but for the fourth the retrogrades are not indicated.

Note that Sedna's elliptical orbit (Trivia: scientists call an elliptical orbit eccentric) creates some rather strange anomolies. If you click on the long-term summary ephemeris of Sedna in Option Three below, you'll see that Sedna moves through half of the zodiac signs during its perihelion (close pass to the Sun) in about 1,500 years, which means at the other end of its elliptical orbit, the aphelion furthest away from the Sun when Sedna is moving at its slowest, Sedna takes about 9,000 years to go through the other six signs of the zodiac. While we don't have an ephemeris for the aphelion part of Sedna's orbit yet, a quick back of the envelope calculation would appear to make Sedna's transit through Sagittarius around 2,000 years plus or minus a few years, while Sedna moves through Sagittarius's opposite sign, Gemini, in less than 25 years. Other planetary bodies in highly elliptical 10,000-year plus orbits would also have a similar pattern.

Option One:

The very first Sedna ephemeris. It covers the years 1900-2036.  On the day Sedna's discovery was announced on March 15, 2004, the remarkable Swiss Ephemeris people came through again and had calculated a 10-day astrological ephemeris for Sedna. Even with their qualifiers about its accuracy the ephemeris is quite good, although the ephemeris badly needed some reformatting for use on our home computers. Click here for the ASCII version I reformatted which you can click to save to your hard drive, open in your Windows notebook, send to your word processor, etc. Must have for serious students of astrology or those wanting to locate Sedna quickly in their natal chart. This is still the handiest ephemeris for a quick reference.

Option Two:

Sedna daily ephemeris for 1800 - 2103, extracted from the Riyal software. This ephemeris is available for free download as a 507 KB zip file. Use WinZip or an equivalent utility to unzip this file on your hard drive. It expands into three ascii files of about 1.0 MB per file which can be opened in your Windows notebook, MS word, or whichever other word processing software you choose. One file for each century. Designed for those who need a daily Sedna position in the modern world. Retrogrades and stations are easily discernable. Note the position of Sedna is calculated to the arc second, which is perhaps a little too optimistic. Click here to download.

Option Three:

No, we don't yet have an ephemeris which covers Sedna's complete 10,500-year orbital period. But we do have an annual 366-day Sedna ephemeris which covers Sedna's journey through half of the zodiac during the years 602 C.E. to 2103 C.E. while Sedna is moving the fastest during its "close" pass to the Sun. This ephemeris was extracted from the Riyal software, and is designed for a quick over-view of Sedna over 1,500 years. Retrogrades and stations are not indicated. Click here to view.

Option Four:

If the annual ephemeris in Option Three above does not have the detail you require, try the large 10-day Sedna ephemeris which covers the same 602 C.E. to 2103 C.E. time period in detail. (This was also extracted from the Riyal software.) This ephemeris is available for free download as a 279 KB zip file. Use WinZip or an equivalent utility to unzip this file on your hard drive. It expands to a 1.5 MB ascii file which can be opened in your Windows notebook, MS word, or whichever other word processing software you choose. Designed for the serious astrological researcher or the exceptionally curious. Retrogrades and stations are discernable in this ephemeris. Note the position of Sedna is calculated to the arc second here as well, which is perhaps a little too optimistic. Click here to download.

Option Five:

Can't make up your mind? Then try this one big zip file, which contains all of the Sedna ephemerides mentioned above. For those of you on dialup, it's 709 KB to download, but much bigger unzipped. Click here to download.
