Subject: Mars, transneptunians

Message Detail:
Just a glance at trans-Neptunians and some artists charts.

First, two Pennsylvania natives both born with Saturn handled bucket charts. Maxfield Parrish (July 25, 1870) and Andy Warhol (August 6, 1928). Parrish, whose brilliant use of color inspired the naming of a new color, "Parrish Blue", had a Mars/Quaoar conjunction in early Cancer, less than 1 degree apart. Warhol had a Mars/Orcus conjunction in Taurus, about 5 degrees apart.

Vincent VanGogh (March 30, 1853) had a Mars/Sedna conjunction in Pisces, about 1 degree apart. Pablo Picasso (October 25, 1881) had a Mars/Quaoar conjunction in Cancer within about 3 degrees. Claude Monet, one of the most noted impressionists had a Sun/Orcus conjunction in Scorpio, less than 1 degree.

The avant-garde artist Yoko Ono Lennon (February 18, 1933) has a Mars/Quaoar conjunction in Virgo within about 2 degrees. When Orcus transited her natal Pluto at 21Cancer38 in 1973 she released two feminist rock albums,"Approximately Infinite Universe" and "Feeling the Space". Her marriage to John had soured a bit at this point and she needed some time apart.

What it means? Well, allowing for an orb of 5 degrees on either side of Quaoar, Orcus or Sedna, 1 in 12 people will have one of these bodies conjunct their natal Mars. There are plenty of culturally signifigant artists who don't have this conjunction, including some whose works most move me personally. (Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Salvador Dali, Frida Kahlo and Jackson Pollack for instance)

But the prominance of these conjunctions in the others suggests an energetic expression (Mars) of deep inner emotions (Trans-Neptunians). These are creative energies, not destructive ones. Getting to the core does not always mean destroying the superfluous, it can be a creative revealing process as well requiring strength and balance in the artist so as not to muddy the core of what the artist is trying to evoke in the piece.

We people like to "do" our passions. Sometimes we might feel that the Trans-Neptunians are about jumping exploding motorcycles over burning bridges while tearing off our chainmail bras in defferance to the Lesbian Constitution, but the Scorpionic energy is not just this yanged-out nihilism we kind of tagged Mars and Pluto with. It is a very fruitful sign, astrologers say the best fishing and planting days are when the Moon is in tropical Scorpio. The two best friends of my young adulthood were both Scorpios and if they behaved anything like the sorry astrological charicature of Sun sign Scorpio then they wouldn't have been my good friends.

An Erisian digression here. Eris transited Salvador Dali's natal Moon at 2Aries28 from May 1931 til January 1935. Dali completed probably his most iconic work, "The Persistence of Memory" in 1931. Melting watches draped over a barren landscape where the sleeper's head melts into a dead horse behind them. This painting seems to coincide with Eris' pushing at the boundaries of our space/time awareness. Dali married Gala, the love of his life in 1934, Eris still over his natal Moon.

I can only hope it's not a mistake to bring any of this up. If any naive astrology student with a Mars/Trans-Nep conjunction decides to pick up a paintbrush and run off chasing dollar bill signs, only to end up impoverished, ill and alone in a wheatfield with ravens, a-la Vincent VanGogh, then i would feel just awful. Caveat emptor!

Anyway, those are just some rough sketches of Mars and the Trans-Neptunians. A happy solstice to to all!
